Main components of tensile testing machines

Tensile testing machines are not only sophisticated devices but also assemblies of highly specialized components that work synergistically to ensure precise and reliable tests.

Let’s take a closer look at these essential components:

    Load Cells

Load cells are crucial in tensile testing machines. By converting the tensile force into a measurable electrical signal, load cells not only guarantee high product quality but also high precision and perfect compatibility with all other machine components.

    Extensometers

Extensometers play a key role in measuring the extension, or strain, of a specimen. This measurement is required by international standards such as ASTM and UNI EN ISO for tensile testing, making extensometers an indispensable component. Different technologies are available including digital image correlation and video extensometers.

    Grips

Grippers provide the mechanical connection between the sample and the tensile testing machine. Their main function is to transfer the movement of the moving crosshead to the specimen and to transmit the test load from the specimen to the load cell. There are numerous types of grips, each specialized according to the specimen.

    Mobile Crosshead

The crosshead is a crucial component, controlled to move up or down during the test. In tensile testing, the crosshead speed is related to the strain rate of the specimen.

    Electronics

The electronics of a tensile testing machine are in charge of acquiring load and elongation measurements as well as controlling the moving parts, such as the crosshead. The speed of the crosshead, and thus the applied load, is regulated by a microprocessor in the servo controller, which includes motor, feedback device and drive.

    Drive System

The drive system powers the machine motor, adjusting power and frequency and thus directly controlling the loading rate

    Software

Our Testing software is a guided, Windows-based solution that is extremely user-friendly.

It allows users to set up the test system, configure and execute tests, as well as display results intuitively and immediately and share them over the network with other programmes.

These components, designed to work together efficiently, are at the heart of our pulling machines, ensuring tests with high accuracy and reliability.
